The Old Court Hotel as it is now known, is a historical building
to Witney and is situated opposite the old courts where lawyers,
judges and the condemned a like would all come to drink. It is a
16th Century building, previously used as a Coaching house. It is
newly refurbished with a bright open plan bar and a warming restaurant
with a friendly atmosphere.
Witney, an old market town, with many local products, ranging from
sheep and wool in the old days to local farmers markets of today.
The Cotswolds famously gained its name from the association to the
wool, hence Cotswold wool. Blankets were famously made here and
were supplied to the military over the previous century and beyond,
and people would come from afar to purchase the Witney blankets.
Cotswold stone is a very famous and distinctive sand stone which
over time and weathering gives a wonderful warm honey look and can
be seen everywhere throughout the county.
